About the winery

Fernando Angulo and Carmen Caballero make sparkling Palomino in Sanlúcar, by the ancestral method and with a second fermentation in bottle, some of it aged under flor beforehand. They pick up the thread of the Champagne-Sherry that Domecq sold in the early twentieth century.

Bodegas Barrero

Since 1798

The house that has been picking up what Sanlúcar let fall. It starts in 1798 with the Marquis of Casa Arizón's San Pedro bodega; in 1986 José Luis Barrero bought the Miguel Sánchez Ayala firm outright, and in 2019 the two Pedro Romero buildings. That makes 8,300 square metres of bodega in the Barrio Bajo, a step from the beach, and it has recently opened to visitors.

Bodegas Alonso

The Asencio brothers set this house up so that what was left of three extinguished Sanlúcar bodegas would not be lost: Pedro Romero, Gaspar Florido and Fernando Méndez. They keep their very old amontillados, olorosos and palos cortados — the Ánsar Real butts are over a century old — and since 2017 have released a manzanilla of their own, Velo Flor, backed by thirteen hectares in Balbaína and Miraflores.
