José de Soto (Vinícola Soto)

Save to my lists

This house no longer makes wine or opens its doors.

Its page stays because people still look for it by name.

What remains of it lives on at: Bodegas Fundador

About the winery

The house of Ponche Soto, the liqueur José de Soto Ruiz created in the late nineteenth century. In 1989 it was bought by José María Ruiz-Mateos, and in 2000 it joined the Garvey group. Since 2017 its ponche has been a brand of Emperador, the group that owns Fundador.

In its last years it appeared in the Consejo’s register as Vinícola Soto, on Calle Porvera. Besides the ponche it made the Soto and Venerable brandies. It merged with Garvey in 1998, and by 2012 it was no longer in the register.
