About the winery

The only winery to have made sweet Tintilla de Rota continuously since 1957: the historic red wine of the Cádiz coast, nearly extinct in the 19th century.

In 1957, Juan Martínez Martín acquired a small vineyard plot inland from Rota that still held Tintilla de Rota vines, a red variety documented since the 17th century that was once exported to Great Britain, France and the United States as sacramental wine. Bodegas El Gato has kept its sweet production alive ever since.
