About the winery

Founded in 1781, Sánchez Romate is one of the historic houses of Jerez, famed for its NPU Amontillado and its Cardenal Cisneros Pedro Ximénez.

Juan Sánchez de la Torre partnered with the Romate family in 1781 to found the house. In 1887 the fourth generation created the Cardenal Mendoza brandy. Its special reserves NPU (Amontillado) and Cardenal Cisneros (Pedro Ximénez) age for more than 15 years in wood.

Designations of origin

DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry · Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda

View wineries →

The designation of origin for the fortified wines of the Marco: fino, manzanilla, amontillado, palo cortado, oloroso, Pedro Ximénez, moscatel and cream. It covers ageing under flor and the criaderas y soleras system, and only wineries registered with the Consejo Regulador may use it.

DO Vinagre de Jerez (Sherry Vinegar)

View wineries →

A designation of its own for vinegar aged in the same American oak butts and through the same solera system as Sherry wine. Many wineries hold it alongside the wine DO; a few produce vinegar exclusively.
